macOS Mojave Patcher Disk

Mojave Patcher – install macOS 10.14 Mojave on unsupported Macs using the macOS Mojave Patcher Installer Disk.

Please check the list of Macs below that are Mojave enabled through this installer.

The version that ships on this USB disk is always the latest version at time of postage.

Some Macs that run macOS 10.13 High Sierra won’t run 10.14 Mojave. This was Apple’s decision and not necessarily based on the power or capability of these Macs, but on a particular choice of graphics technology called Metal. This technology will make it easier for Apple to make progress with Augmented Reality for instance, though I can’t say I know anyone today for whom that is a real priority. So, this patched version of the installer does not require the Metal capable graphics hardware.

It installs macOS Mojave like the normal installer, but then requires a reboot back into the installer to run a utility that applies a post-install patch. Then a final reboot starts Mojave normally. You can either upgrade a previous version of macOS to Mojave, or install Mojave from scratch.

The Mojave Patcher has been developed by the remarkable DosDude1, and is available as a download from his site. Then an additional download of Mojave is required to ultimately create the disk that we supply here. This disk therefore saves you all the bother. For step-by-step installation instructions please follow his page, starting at step 4 with this disk.

He lists the following Macs as compatible:

• MacPro3,1
• MacPro4,1

• iMac8,1
• iMac9,1
• iMac10,x
• iMac11,x and iMac12,x (systems with AMD Radeon HD 5xxx and 6xxx series GPUs will be almost unusable when running Mojave.)

• MacBookPro4,1
• MacBookPro5,x
• MacBookPro6,x
• MacBookPro7,1
• MacBookPro8,x

• Early-2008 or newer Mac Pro, iMac, or MacBook Pro:
• Late-2008 or newer MacBook Air or Aluminum Unibody MacBook:
• MacBookAir2,1
• MacBookAir3,x
• MacBookAir4,x
• MacBook5,1

• Early-2009 or newer Mac Mini or white MacBook:
• Macmini3,1
• Macmini4,1
• Macmini5,x
• MacBook5,2
• MacBook6,1
• MacBook7,1

• Early-2008 or newer Xserve:
• Xserve2,1
• Xserve3,1

There are caveats. It works better on some macs than others. Please check his list. In my own experience I have 2 older macs, one for which the install has given me a working Mojave Mac – I am using it now to type this -, and another that had weird graphical effects such that I quickly reverted back to High Sierra. See my post here on Macwiz.

Some of the Macs listed above are not High Sierra capable. So the disk may possibly work to install Mojave on a Mac that would not even install the previous macOS! Please read DosDude1’s page carefully for install on such macs. Please also donate something on DosDude1’s page to give encouragement for a patch for the next macOS!
