Install macOS 11 Big Sur

This macOS 11.01 Big Sur installer disk installs Big Sur on any capable Mac. This installer is for Intel-based Macs rather than those running on Apple Silicon.

The installer has full international language support.

Check the description below to see if Big Sur will run on your Mac. macOS Big Sur does not run on every Mac that the previous system supported.

macOS 11.01 Big Sur USB installer disk inserted into a laptopThis USB disk will install macOS 11 Big Sur and we recommend it if your Mac is still running 10.13 High Sierra, 10.14 Mojave or 10.15 Catalina. Check that your Mac will run Big Sur first.

If your supported Mac is running an earlier version of macOS, this disk can upgrade your system, keeping your data and compatible* applications. It should be running at least macOS High Sierra. Or you can wipe your hard disk and install a system from scratch if you prefer. You can choose to install on your Mac’s internal disk, or you can install it on an external hard drive to have a portable or back-up system.

macOS Big Sur runs on:

iMac: Mid 2014 (21.5-inch), Late 2014 (Retina 5K, (27-inch), or newer

iMac Pro 2017 or newer

Mac Pro: Late 2013 or newer

Mac Mini: Late 2014 or newer

MacBook: Early 2015 or newer

MacBook Air: Mid 2013 or newer

MacBook Pro: Late 2013 or newer

To check your mac, go to the Apple menu > About this Mac > Overview

64-Bit only

*Like its predecessor Catalina, Big Sur only runs 64-Bit apps. It follows that some older versions of Microsoft Office (for instance) will not work. If you are worried about what apps will not work on your Mac after install, we suggest checking your Mac with the Go64 app first which will indicate any 32-Bit apps you are using.
